NEVIMC was founded in 2025 by Dr. Bryan Welch, BSc, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM). Dr. Welch is a native of Massachusetts and has worked in the veterinary field since 2008. He obtained his BSc in biomedical science from the University of New Hampshire in 2016. He obtained his DVM in 2020 at the Atlantic Veterinary College, completed a 1-year emergency and critical care internship at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in 2021 and completed a 3-year small animal internal medicine residency at the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2024. Dr. Welch obtained board-certification in small animal internal medicine in 2024. He has numerous peer-reviewed publications and is a practicing private practice internist.

Working in both academia and private practice, Dr. Welch recognized the barriers that can sometimes prevent or delay a in-person internal medicine consultation. In-person consultations are often costly, can be associated with prolonged waiting periods, may require travel and often involves repeating previously performed diagnostics. Dr. Welch founded NEVIMC as a means to expand access to internal medicine specialty care.
